The next chapter reviews the theory of the allosteric control of cooperative adsorption and conformation changes and outlines a molecular model for physiological activities according to the association-induction hypothesis. The derivation of the cooperative specific adsorption isotherm both stochastically and on the basis of statistical mechanics is explained. This book is comprised of five chapters and opens with a discussion on the phenomenon of cooperative specific adsorption and its importance for the understanding of fundamental biological phenomena. ![]() The use of Monte Carlo methods to investigate the behavior of cooperative Ising models is also described. These lessons learned have informed our revised rubric and would also inform future course design to engage students in scientific modeling. Lessons Learned from Implementation in 20A This section briefly summarizes the results of piloting this assessment and rubric with 49 students in a Bio20A course. You can see our final assessment and revisions below. From the results of that pilot, we learned that we needed to go even further in asking students to explain and not to just tell us about the models. In the link above, we highlight how we developed one assessment that was piloted in a 20A course.
